Urgent: There’s A Good Chance Your Fire Extinguisher Won’t Work When You Need It!
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of more than 40 million fire extinguishers produced by Kidde, one of America’s largest manufacturers of fire safety products. The extinguishers, found not only in homes but also on many recreational boats, may clog and fail to discharge during a fire. Additionally, the extinguisher’s nozzles can break free with enough force to cause injury.
A total of 134 models of disposable fire extinguishers with plastic handles and plastic push-button firing mechanisms are affected. There are nearly 400 reports of malfunctioning Kidde fire extinguishers, which have resulted in 16 injuries and one death.
Kidde is offering replacements for the defective fire extinguishers. You can find a list of affected models on its website with directions on what you should do if you have a listed model on your boat (jet ski, tow vehicle, boat slip, house, garage, etc.).
